Afghan President Ashraf Ghani spoke with US Secretary of United State Mike Pompeo via video conference on Monday and discussed the Afghan peace process, the presidential spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said.
According to Sediqqi, in the video conference they also discussed the next steps towards peace, including the release of prisoners, the analysis and location of negotiations, and other peace-related measures.
Both sides emphasized the need for joint cooperation on reporting during the peace negotiations, Sediqqi added.
In the video conference, Pompeo and Ghani agreed to work on the details of the peace process in the coming days, with the Afghan government in particular emphasizing the undeclared ceasefire mechanism that sets out the rules of the game, said Sediqqi.
Meanwhile, Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the head of the National Reconciliation Council, spoke about the councils actions and the recruitment of its members.
This week Abdullah said the negotiation team is a "good team" and is ready for talks with the Taliban.
